Located in Albuquerque’s North Valley, the pond is stocked with Koi and Comets as decorative species, and mosquito fish to control insects. A substantial number of geese and ducks stay on the property and use the pond. A pair of swans completes the menagerie. As result of all the wild life, the pond was murky and full of algae. It had been a number of years since the pond had been cleaned.
Approximately 100 fish were collected and placed in large containers with aerators to keep them alive during the cleaning. Over 100,000 gallons of water were removed from the pond and a septic tank company was contracted to remove about a foot and half of sludge from the bottom of the pond. Once drained and cleaned, the pond was inspected, and large cracks were sealed.
Finally The Hilltop added plantings in floating islands and ledges on the pond.
