Residential LandscapingCreating a shady backyard family members want to use

The owner of this house in High Desert complained of a small, hot west-facing back yard that nobody in the family cared to spend time in! The clients desired shade and an extended patio for an outdoor living area where they could entertain guests. It was clear from a visit to the sight that the final plan would also need to screen the back from the neighbors.

The Hilltop solution was to build a large cedar lattice shade structure supported by mossrock pilasters over the new extensive pavestone patio. The increased wall height, boulder water feature and raised mossrock planting bed with flagstone cap are important elements enhancing this intimate backyard space. The client added their own touches including a special piece of sculpture to make it complete.
